Maracanaú, CE

COBAP, a corrugated cardboard box company that offers packaging solutions, located in the city of Maracanaú state of Ceará, completed the modernization process of its PM#1, starting its operation with great success in early July.

HERGEN has supplied a set of equipment for the modernization of the Press Section and the installation of a new drive concept for the drying section. The upgrade project provided by HERGEN focused on increasing production capacity by increasing the dry content arriving to the drying section, enabling the machine to operate at 600 m/min in the future.

Combined innovations to deliver the best performance

The machine received a new wet press section with the “JUMBO PRESS” concept, with the first press rolls with a diameter of 840 mm, and the second press rolls with a diameter of 1200 mm and respective NIP loads of 200 kN/m and 300 kN/m.

The old drying section drive – with gears – was replaced by a new drive with the multimotor “silent drive” concept. The silent drive concept delivers: reduction of mechanical losses; improved draw control and synchronism; ease maintenance; noise reduction and increased operational safety. The client complemented the project with an “upgrade “in the vacuum system (Fourdrinier and press section) and steam and condensate system.

According to the engineer responsible for the project assembly, commissioning and start-up, “The machine is in the optimization stage and is gradually increasing its speed, moving forward on its learning curve towards its performance indicators, energy efficiency and production increase.”

Promising future
